Constitution
Introduction
The Field Spaniel Health Committee is constituted as
a sub-committee of the Field Spaniel Society General Committee and will
report thereto on a regular basis, or as when determined by the General
Committee.
The Field Spaniel Health Committee may at anytime seek
help and/or advice from the Kennel Club Genetics Co-ordinator and/or
the Kennel Club BSAVA Scientific Committee regarding its function and/or
handling of data collected. (Held by the Health Co-ordinator).
Membership
The membership of The Field Spaniel Health Committee
will consist of :
- Two (2) members drawn from the Field Spaniel General Committee,
one (1) of whom will be the Field Spaniel Society Health Co-ordinator.
- Two (2) members from the general membership of the Field Spaniel
Society.
- A Veterinary Surgeon, approved by the Field Spaniel General Committee,
as an ex-officio member to act in an advisory capacity to the committee.
All members of the Field Spaniel Health Committee must
be fully subscribed members of the Field Spaniel Society.
The two (2) committee members of the Health Committee
will be nominated from within the Field Spaniel Society General Committee
membership and will serve their term of office concurrently with their
term of office on the General Committee.
Health Committee members nominated from within the
Field Spaniel General Committee will be eligible for re-nomination if
successfully re-elected to the Field Spaniel Society General Committee,
should they stand for re-election.
The general members of the Field Spaniel Health Committee
will serve for a period of three (3) years following election and will
be eligible to stand for re-election when their term of office comes
to an end.
The general members of the Field Spaniel Health Committee
will be elected in accordance with rule four (4) of the Field Spaniel
Society Rules, April 2000.
Aim of The Field Spaniel Health Committee
The aim of The Field Spaniel Health Committee shall
be to establish, maintain, monitor and seek to improve the well-being
and health status of the Field Spaniel.
Objectives
- To establish channels of communication within the breed and establish
a Field Spaniel health database.
- To promote existing health schemes e.g. eye surveying and hip
scoring.
- From the health database, identify the aetiology (origin) and
epidemiology (spread) of pathologies detrimental to the survival
of the Field Spaniel.
- Recommend to the general membership of the Field Spaniel Society,
through the Field Spaniel General Committee, any appropriate advice
and/or remedial actions that may help preserve the health status
of the Field Spaniel.
- Provide regular information to the general membership of the
Field Spaniel Society
through the Field Spaniel Society Newsletter, Field Spaniel Society
Year Book and the Annual General Meeting.
- The Field Spaniel Health Committee will not prescribe or seek
to control breeding programmes within the membership of the Field
Spaniel Society.
- Information provided by Field Spaniel Society members will be
treated in strictest confidence and unless specified by the person
providing the information, will be catalogued anonymously, dog a,
dog b, bitch a, bitch c etcetera.
- All members of the Field Spaniel Health Committee will subscribe
to a Confidentiality Agreement by which: Information from individual
owners will be only disclosed with the consent of the owner.
- Any member of the Field Spaniel Health Committee proven to have
breached this Confidentiality Agreement will be dealt with in accordance
with rule (7) of the Field Spaniel Society Rules, April 2000,

and all information given to me, in my capacity as a member of
the Field Spaniel Society Health Committee, in strictest confidence
in perpetuity. Such information will only be shared with other
members of the Field Spaniel Society Health Committee and with
any others on a 'need to know' basis only with the expressed consent
of the owner. |
Any monies raised on behalf of the Field Spaniel Society
Health Committee, will be administered through the Field Spaniel Society
normal account /banking arrangement, by the Society Treasurer.
The Field Spaniel Society Health Committee is instituted
from within the general membership of the Field Spaniel Society and
exists only to serve the best interests of the Field Spaniel and their
owners.
