Criteria for Lists of Judges

GENERAL

All judges who are included in the Society's list of judges must agree to write a critique on their judging of the breed and to submit it within the time limit to the canine press.

The list is valid for a specific period and upon expiry the Society will publish an updated list. Inclusion in any part of the list does not guarantee automatic admission to future lists.

The Field Spaniel Committee alone shall decide which judges names are to be included on the Society's annual list. Although proposed judges may fulfil the criteria required this does not guarantee automatic nclusion on any of the Society's lists.

A1 LIST

For persons who have previously been approved by the Kennel Club to award CCs in the Breed and have completed their first appointment. To have the support of the Field Spaniel Society.

A3 LIST

For persons who are considered by the Field Spaniel Society to be acceptable as judges of Field Spaniels at Championship show level, but have not yet been passed to award Challenge Certificates in the breed.

Breed Specialists

  • To have attended a Seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer, and passed the relevant examination on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures.
  • To have attended a Seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer on Conformation and Movement.
  • To have attended and passed a Conformation & Movement "Hands-on" Assessment delivered by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer.
  • To have attended at least one breed specific seminar, including "Hands-On" Seminar, run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and/or assessment where applicable.
  • To have a minimum of 7 years judging experience in the breed.
  • To have the support of the Field Spaniel Society.
  • For judges who have actually judged a minimum of 40 breed classes with 75 exhibits hands-on at Open or Championship shows without Challenge Certificates or at a gundog club over a wide geographical spread.
  • To have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 dogs when they obtained their 1st entry in the Kennel Club Stud Book (save exceptional circumstances).
  • To have stewarded at 12 shows.


  • Non Specialists
  • To have attended a Seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer, and passed the relevant examination on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures.

  • To have attended a Seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer on Conformation and Movement.
  • To have attended at least one breed specific seminar, including "Hands-On" seminar, run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and/or assessment where applicable.
  • To have a minimum of 7 years judging experience in any one breed (to include 5 years in this breed).
  • To have the support of of the Field Spaniel Society.
  • For judges who have actually judged a minimum of 40 breed classes with 100 exhibits hands-on at 10 Open or Championship shows without Challenge certificates or at a Gundog club over a wide geographical spread (saved in exceptional circumstances).
  • To have awarded CCs in at least one other breed.
  • To have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 dogs of any breed when they obtained their 1st entry into The Kennel Club Stud Book (save in exceptional circumstances).
  • B LIST

    For persons who are considered by the Field Spaniel Society to be acceptable as judges of Field Spaniels at Open and Limited shows only. Acceptance on the list is regarded as an honour by the club.

    Breed Specialists
    For judges who have actually judged a minimum of 25 exhibits hands-on during a period of 3 years or more with a number of the venues being of good geographical spread and to have attended at least 1 Field Spaniel Society Seminar.

    Non Breed Specialists
    For judges who have actually judged a minimum of 40 exhibits hands-on during a period of 5 years or more with a number of the venues being of good geographical spread and to have attended at least 1 Field Spaniel Society Seminar (save exceptional circumstances).

    C LIST

    For aspirant judges who have shown an interest in the breed and have the support of the Field Spaniel Society.
